Septic tank pumping cost

Most households pay $300 to $650 for a pump-out. Tank size, region, and whether the truck can reach the lid decide where you land in that range.

What the pump-out includes

A proper service removes both liquid and solids — the sludge layer is the whole point — checks the baffles or effluent filter, and notes the condition of the tank. A truck that takes only the liquid and leaves compacted sludge behind has not pumped your tank, whatever the invoice says.

What adds to the price

How often it is due

Every three to five years for a family of four on a 1,000 gallon tank; sooner with a garbage disposal or a smaller tank. The pump schedule calculator works out your exact interval. Skipping the interval does not save money — it moves the cost to the drainfield, at roughly thirty times the price.
